At the invitation of the School of Finance, Sushanta Kumar Mallick, Professor at Queen Mary University of London, conducted high-level teaching activities and academic exchanges at our university from April 18th to 22nd, 2025. Prof. Sushanta is one of the top 5% economists in the world, serving as editor-in-chief of SSCI journals such as Oxford Economic Papers, Economic Analysis and Policy, Economic Modelling, etc. He has published more than 100 high-level academic papers in the fields of international macroeconomics, banking and finance, innovation and development, mainly in Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Econometrics, European Journal of Operational Research, British Journal of Management and other international high-level journals.

From April 18th to 21st, Prof. Sushanta taught an all-English course, "The Global Economy", to seven PhD students from the School of Finance. The course systematically taught the core theory and applied practice of international trade and international finance. The trade section includes the theory of comparative advantage, the theory of factor endowment, trade policy instruments and political economy analysis, and an in-depth discussion over the controversies and challenges of trade policy in developing countries; the financial section focuses on issues such as national income accounting and balance of payments, foreign exchange markets and exchange rate determination mechanisms, financial globalization and crisis evolution, as well as the economic growth, crises and reforms in developing countries. During the lecture, Prof. Sushanta demonstrated the use of international mainstream databases in real time, combined with the latest trade and exchange rate data for case study, and closely integrated theory and practice, which greatly enriched the classroom content and enhanced the doctoral students' theoretical literacy and data analysis ability.

On the morning of April 22, Prof. Sushanta gave a academic lecture on "The Art and Science of Academic Writing and Publishing" to our young teachers and doctoral students. In the lecture, Prof. Sushanta systematically explained the main components of an academic paper and its writing style, emphasizing the combination of"Science" and "Art" in paper writing, and especially pointed out the importance of highlighting the innovative points in paper writing and publication. At the same time, Prof. Sushanta introduced the reviewing process of international journals in detail, demonstrated the use of the reviewing system on the spot, and visualized the reviewing process of the submitted papers by combining with some examples of anonymous papers under review. In addition, Prof. Sushanta gave a focused lecture and hands-on demonstration on how to formulate an English dissertation topic and how to effectively emphasize innovativeness in a dissertation, which greatly benefited the students and teachers.
The visit of Prof. Sushanta not only provides our doctoral students with systematic and cutting-edge learning opportunities in international economics courses, but also injects new impetus into the improvement of academic ability and the development of international exchanges for young teachers. The School of Finance will continue to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with international high-level scholars, helping to continuously improve the level of high-level talent cultivation and scientific research and innovation.
